Why Being Psychologically Healthy is Important Too!

So we live in a society where being beautiful and handsome is the most important thing, right? Where the perfect body, perfect height, great eyes, and being fit is the most important thing it seems. It's become such an emphasis that people are spending thousands and thousands of dollars on supplements, surgery, and crazy diet plans.

But what does it all matter if the person you're with is beautiful on the outside but psychologically damaged on the inside? A person might have the perfect body — but what if they don't know how to love? Or how to forgive? Or haven't figured out how to stay faithful?

As a therapist, it amazes me at what lengths people will go through to look great, but then they neglect their psychological and emotional health. People would rather join a gym, train for a marathon, or post pictures of their chiseled abs — and then neglect the fact that after all these years, they still can't learn how to compromise with their spouses.

Psychological Health is Just as Important

Why is it accepted to see a doctor if you're sick, a dentist for a cavity, have a trainer if you're out of shape — but immediately conclude that you must be crazy should you want to improve your emotional or psychological health? How is it a bad thing that you want to see a therapist so you can learn how to love and be loved?

I'm here to make it official: being psychologically healthy is just as important as your physical health. Being psychologically and emotionally healthy is something that you can take with you until the day you die. It isn't bound by age and it isn't bound by supplements.

In fact, whatever changes you make and whatever you heal from your past is there for good. It isn't like physical fitness where you have to keep lifting in order to maintain that same strength. In therapy, once you heal, it's healed.

So what are you waiting for? Come get your dose of psychological workout!
